To our community:
At Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC), we stand in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant neighbors here in the Bay Area, in Los Angeles, and across the nation to demand just, humane, and inclusive immigration policies.
The coordinated ICE raids launched under the Trump administration, along with their immigration policies, are a direct attack on families, workers, and communities that form the backbone of our cities. Raiding workplaces, targeting day laborers, and arbitrarily detaining individuals with no criminal history violates human dignity, tears families apart, and undermines the fabric of trust and safety in our neighborhoods.
EDC was founded on the belief that housing is a human right, and we know that the threat of deportation is also a threat of displacement. These actions are targeting immigrants nationwide, creating a climate of fear and terror, just as intended. The ICE raids and detentions deprive immigrants of due process, violating their constitutional rights. All persons residing in the U.S., documented or not, are promised due process under the Constitution. These continued actions threaten the safety of individuals and families.
Additionally, the conditions in these detention centers raise serious concerns about human rights violations. So many of those being targeted have fled their own countries seeking safety from persecution and violence. Now they face the same here in the U.S. As the federal government continues to unnecessarily send troops to California, the militarization of our communities only deepens the trauma and injustice being inflicted.
We support the right of every person to live without fear of being torn from their home, their family, or their community. We join the many voices rising across the country to denounce these raids, oppose the use of federal forces in our cities, and defend the sanctuary policies that protect our most vulnerable. These actions serve as a vital reminder of the strength, resilience, and unity of immigrant communities and those who support them.
We will continue to work towards building a city where everyone, regardless of immigration status, has the right to live and thrive in safety.
In solidarity,
Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC)
